Artificial habitat (protection)
SOVB has created an artificial habitat with rigid synthetic fibres which protects fish fry. These young fish regularly shelter at the river sides and become prey to fish such as perch. This system acts as a simple but effective refuge for these young fish mimicking their natural environment.
Depending on the water temperature, this habitat quickly becomes colonized by filament algae (pond weed) which provide the fry with hiding-places, but also a great deal of food (vegetable and micro organic (plankton)).
